    choices choice choices

    hey guys.

Finally decided. Going to invest this december. going to buy a halcyon eclipse on stainless steed bp. And an 0three custom drysuit (still unsure which model) My only concern is that i only have 35 logged dives. IS this too soon for me to go to a single wing. Secondly do the dealers help u set up your kit? the reason i ask is.

I dont want to get a bcd only to have to sell in a years time as i want to go DIR route. Does anyone have a set up guide for the halcyon wing?

    cheers

    John

Shame you didn't post this before the weekend just gone as there was a big get together at Stoney this weekend and all your questions would have been answered.

Looking at your location, touch base with Rich Walker (GUE Instructor and Halcyon dealer) or NeilH (organises DIR try-dives for the midlands/north!!) on here about meeting up, trying some kit out and setting it up properly.

Timescales wise, I think you have enough under your belt to get a wing and harness for a single cylinder.

For more information on kit have a look at Peter Steinhoff's site, Clare's Site and Andy Kerslakes site.

John - I'm sure plenty of people will happily meet up with you and help you sort your config out. And no I don't think 35 dives is too soon in fact I wish they'd teach OW in this rig to save time and money later on...

Go for the wing, you'll be fine. I've taught people wearing wings from the very start - no problems.

In terms of setting up the harness, have a look around teh net, in your case, specifically DIR related sites and you'll get all the info you need.

I'm sure some of the DIR types of this parish will also be cool with offering advice/help.

You'll get a harness setup guide when you buy the wing, otherwise you can download one here... http://www.halcyon.net/manuals/Halcy...anual05web.pdf good dealers will help you set them up. And either myself (or Rich Walker) would be happy to sell you one and meet up to sort out the fit.

If the DIR route is a possible for the future you may want to reconsider the O3 drysuit, i've taught a couple of people where we realised this suit really wasn't helping at all.

Good drysuits for DIR Diving are.

Polarbears Explorer Ocean Explorers, The Online Technical Diving Centre - Polar Bears Explorer
    DUI TLS350
    Protec Explorer

I can measure and fit the PB suit, Clare Gledhill can do the DUI. Not sure about Protec

    exactly.

What i dont get is why people say the kits sooo expensive... nor really, not when u compare it to a top line stab jacket or poseidon beasea range.

My progression was going to go along the lines of

    Halcyon eclipse on 15litre single.
then onto the evolve with either 12 litre of 15litre twinset. But for twinset id need to do the familiarisation course first.

Are there any DIR Books that i can purchase. so i can get to grips with it before i attend the courses

    Hi John,

As GLOC says, I'd be more than happy to take you through the wing set-up process. I can do a try dive with you, and guide you through some of the choices, just drop me a PM or email and let me know where and when is convenient.

There's no charge for the try out, or my time, by the way.

    Best wishes,

Personally I'd consider the Frog wing myself (I have a Halcyon Explorer) as they are cheaper and from what I can tell the build quality is as good as Halcyon.

Also I'd be tempted down the AGIR backplate route.....again...no real difference in quality....just cheaper.

If you do decide to get an O'Three drysuit then I'd recommend the Ri2/100 it's hypercompressed so the bouyancy change is not as great as the MSF500. Having bought the Ri1/200 myself and having moved to neoprene from a membrane drysuit my bouyancy change at the critical 10m step is no different in the O3 as it was in the membrane.
