Its quite an amazing thing to have a close knit group that are willing to leand things. Again i find that so nice that people dont even know me, and yet theyre willing to lend kit.
With halcyon.....you're paying for the H.....Salvo has as good if not better support network through Phill at DivingNikNaks as you'll get from H. Frog....the same. AGIR......there are so many places selling AGIR stuff now that support isn't an issue....besides I've not seen an AGIR product fail yet....not that it won't happen!

EDIT: Just a thought

I have an old Halcyon Explorer wing that needs a new dump valve. I live about a mile from Silent Planet (The UK Halcyon distributor/importer/whatever they're called) and they can't find one to sell to me....they only have the new type. So....paying the extra doesn't always mean the support is there!

At least AGIR and Salvo do some good innovation of their own. However some other "brands" have not.

In the same way that I don't buy ripoff DVDs, or imitation designer clothing, I prefer to support the orginal manufacturers of diving gear. At least with Halcyon you know you are supporting that.

I can't disagree with you there.

However, when the dump valve finally gives up on my Explorer.....I'll be buying a Frog.

That's very strange, I've been told by Silent Planet it's quite an easy fix. I have been assured that if you return it, it can be repaired.

I know what you mean and Frog do cut it mighty close with their wings and dSMBs, but they are not actually *direct* copies. Try a Midnight vs an Evolve and you'll find that they trim differently in the water.

Funnily enough, those twin hose regulators are a good example of how the vast majority of dive gear tends to *evolve* rather than being particularly revolutionary as the internals aren't that much different from the fancy regs we have today. Fact is, there's very, very little real innovation in the dive industry these days... most of the products that have been mentioned are just improvements or 'rethinks' on existing designs.

Personally I won't be impressed until someone comes up with a gadget that extracts oxygen from sea water or a rebreather that's 100% fool proof and safe - now *that* would be innovative!

silent planet contact

Hi

Just a quick note to say that I am the manager of Silent Planet (UK-Halcyon) and if anyone ever has any problems getting hold of any information regarding kit repair, parts or support, that you can contact me directly. See www.silentplanet.info for contact details. We would prefer you to go through your local Halcyon dealer as we are very keen to support the dealer network (after all you can't get an air fill on the internet!) - but in some cases they are very busy or may not have all the up-to-date information to hand, in which case feel free to come to me - apologies for lack of introduction.
Adam Clifton
