| The GUE instructors have this one sorted now. I saw clare teaching it a few weeks back and they have definitely learned how to teach this - probably the most difficult fin kick to teach. However, I'm not going to nick their techniques so give up trying and let them teach you properly when you do fundies so you don't have to unlearn anything you have got into the habit of doing in the meantime. |

| Echo everybody else's advice = wait for the course and learn how to do it properly. Once you have mastered it then its a very useful skill, but better to only learn it once and not have to undo previous less effective methods. Ian |

| Ditto, what Garf et al says, wait till the course - I've just been finning backwards in the pool at lunch time, the life guard was peeing himself, he'd never seen it done before

Are they verboten then or just mocked so severely that a student wouldn't dare wear to them? I was under the impression that fundamentals was exactly that, with only a few kit standards required. Safe diving, Steve

I still think you could do fundies with them.. 'I think..' - you would be 'humoured'. gue.com/Equipment/Config/index.html - point 32. Fins: These should have no attachment buckles that can break. Replace with a more robust connection. and lower down the page: Stiff blade fins are popular among divers who need to swim quickly, move against strong currents, or push large amounts of equipment through water. Less rigid fins will work when pushing less equipment or when less power is desired. The best practice for divers is to use the same gear all the time. Divers should remove all plastic buckles from their new fins and substitute for them stronger attachment springs.
