As a matter of interest, if you look at the first link posted by Ardhill (Hi Paul!), there are details of a breakaway clip using a tank O ring, but I believe that this is primarity related to OC bailout for Rebreather divers rather than normal OC diving.

That's the way I do it, though I secure it with a tie wrap so I don't have to remove the second stage to fit. I've tested it and it does require a fairly hard pull to get it to break. The problem with them is that the tie wrap and o-ring tend to perish so you lose clips .

If you use the cave line approach, especially on the torch head, leave the line a little loose before tieing off, so that the knott lies fully between the ring on the bolt snap and the light handle, this allows the bolt snap to move in its loop of line without streesing the loop on the light head.
If you do it tight uas per other connections the line tends to fray quite quick - 3 dives saw mine looking like the underside of a clippy mat, tried it the other way and it held up fine with no signs of stress.

Tying the SPG boltsnap with thin bungee rather than caveline makes checking the gauge that bit more convenient: just have to tug it out and look down rather than unclip it (although that option is always there if you need to show the team). Also makes dealing with the other clips that gather on the d-ring easier.

Interesting Tim, we must have had different instructors, I was told never to look down at the guage but always to unclip, check then reclip.
