Schipol is a great airport, you can smoke and there was endless free drink in the business class lounge Almost worth the days delay for the upgrade!!

However the baggage issue was one of the main reasons we opted not to fly via the US.

I went to pick a mate up from Heathrow in November, flight got in at 10.15 pm. The place was deserted, I got the last cup of coffee before they shut up.

Best airport food I've had was while waiting at chicago O'Hare, some form of huge beef buttie, perfect.

I agree Chicago O'Hare had best food I have eaten in airport but the best service I have experienced was at Bismarck in North Dakota, the staff couldnt do enough for you. I had a car hire booked and had all sorts of problems as I had never used column stick automatic gear controls before and I couldnt adjust the seat. I went back to car hire and they sent someone to show me how it all worked and even sat in car while I drove it around the airport to get used to it.
That was the start of a month travelling around the states and a great holiday.

Yeah, I've had better food in O'Hare than I've had in the rest of the US. They even sell decent beer from a local microbrewery rather than the usual draft piss. There used to be a tiny Cuban coffee stall in Miami airport which was fantastic. A taxi driver took me to the cafe in Larnaca airport that the taxi drivers use, best coffee I've ever had though. He also offered me a night with his Yugoslavian girlfriend for £20. I declined

You know, I'm not sure "Shrek" is the right name for him after that little detour. Shrek never had eyes that big and scared looking...bit like Bambi caught in the headlights of an oncoming juggernaught after using atropine eye drops. Possibly while being impaled on a spit at the same time...
