I was taught never to shut down the post you are breathing from. Swap first, shut isolator, shut post , open isolator, open post, swap back.

i guess that, as always, the order /pros/cons for the order are different depending on teaching and experience, but so long as you are proficient in the drill, you will be able to do it quickly and efficinetly when you have to do it.

I guess I will be called a heretic now as well, because i know righty tighty, lefty lucy, and being a girl visualise the knob easily, my manifold is only open two turns.

Yup - exactly right.

And as Mal said - this is the drill sequence. In a real scenario you would target the post you thought was failing first.

It's a drill, so they're done slowly and smoothly to build up the muscle memory. No need to rush.

When training we did:
right closed
switch reg
right open
left closed
switch reg
left open
manifold closed
manifold open

That was with IANTD, although I have no idea if was the agency or just the instructors preference.

I am learning valve drills at the moment. I very nearly got through a whole drill yesterday but it was not pretty to watch! Hopefully I will crack it soon though, my left post seems to be a bit less elusive these days .
