| Different agencies do it differently, I presume you mean agencies as in TDI/IANTD/GUE? I was taught on a TDI/PSA course to shut isolator first, then right off (main), swap to left (backup) then reopen right, swap to right, then left off, then reopen left, then open isolator. The GUE method I don't know in detail but basically seems to go right middle left as opposed to middle right left or any variant of. I also have successfully passed courses with IANTD closing the centre and right at the same time, effectively combining step one and two. But that was showing off a bit and trying to speed things up in bloody freezing water! I think most agencies take a view if you can shut down and it works then you pass, with GUE you need to follow the GUE method I believe. Digs. |

Not sure what clip you are looking at but the *new* GUE drill is check back up, shut right, breathe down, swap, open right, check primary, swap, shut manifold, open manifold, shut left, purge backup, open left, check backup, flow check. For drills, most technical agencies teach shut manifold first, GUE teaches shut the right post first. HTH Mal |

| I have tried the isolate, right then left. And the right, isolate, left methods. I think IANTD and TDI don't particularly prescribe to any order as long as you can shutdown, do it efficiently and stick to an order. There was a recent test on gas loss during a shutdown and it was found that hitting the isolator first makes very little difference to the amount of gas lost. I find that Right, Isolate, Left feels more natural to me.....perhaps that's why GUE teach that way? |

There's more to it than that but that's the essence of it. [1] Of course, if you know it's the left post then you shut that first. Mal |

| its this one.... I suppose it does make sense to shut the main reg off first...then go for everything else...

It's an essential part of the skill. It's saying "Oi! Team! Stop! I am having a problem so stand by to assist" Mal |

| I think the torch signal is to show the exact time that she is actually shutting down a post ? The final torch signal is obviously an OK signal...
