| Using a critical static seal as a dynamic shock absorber I am surprised that people are advocating using a critical hp seal, designed for static applications, as a shock absorber! IMO the barrel or face seals in a manifold are a critical hp application and should not be subjected to movement - the seals are not designed for dynamic applications. The manifold should not be free to move - such that any impact forces are transferred through the fixed components of the manifold and away from those fragile seals that are keeping your breathing gas from bubbling away. Underwater I can see no scenario when you can hit something hard enough to damage the manifold (unless someone drops something 'kin big on you when a leaking manifold is the least of your worries). Having mistakenly flown ROV's, which are a lot bigger and faster than any diver or DPV, into all manner of lumps I don't think you need to worry about dinging a manifold underwater. If you drop a twinset and bend the manifold then that's your look out for not looking after your kit So my advice is to set the manifold up so that the knob is in the right place for you to reach it and then to tighten it all up so that it doesn't move. Scootering through wreck superstructure. You could hit something quite fast that way, although as I said before, where's your head gonna be ? .
