| Knots for DSS Computer / Compass mounts? what's the best knot to use and can somebody point me to an illustration of how to tie it? I have just got some nice new 5mm bungee to replace the old stuff I stole off my old rucksack. I was using the knot to stop the end coming through but on a few occasions it did pop through. So How do you tie yours? Cheers Davie Edit: PS can you tell I'm nervous yet? 3 more sleeps till FUNdys

| I just usually double granny knot if it has to butt up against a drilled hole and for my vytec/suunto/uwatec mountings I thread the bungee through both sides and knot both ends together in an overhand knot. No piccies for this though. Sorry |

| I'm ashamed to admit I went for the mini cable tie option. Just couldn't seem to get a small secure knot in the bungee. |

| The secret is NOT to tie stopper knots, but to tie the ends of the bungee together with something like a Fisherman's Knot; which is not actually a knot, but a bend. I fear that 5mm bungee may be a bit too thick for the resulting knot to lie in the channel. I used something like 3/4mm for this. If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll take a photo of my Vyper & Uwatec mounts when I get home. For applications that require a stopper knot, check these out. You'll find them far superior to the double-granny Last edited by nickb : 15-04-08 at 03:11 PM. |

| OK, I've just checked and the photos on Nacker's website shows the mount bungeed up as it should be; except that he's cobbled it together with zip-ties The bungee goes up from the back, through the outer holes and back down through the inner holes. The ends are then tied together. For a more professional finish, just use a fisherman's knot in place of the zip-ties and the bungee will lie in a channel between the two inner holes. EDIT: Just spotted that he uses just one length of bungee crossed at the back, which is all well and good, but if the bungee breaks you could lose the computer/timer. So I'd recommend using two lengths (one either side) for redundancy. To be fair, he refers to this in the text. The photo for the Suunto mount shows two bungees but with stopper knots. Davie stop panicking its (only ) Fundies you'll be shown everything you need to know over the 4 days!!!!!!You could try a figure of eight with a stopper, or just tie a messy knot that will never come undone. PS its alot less scarey than the inhabitants of the east neuk of fife and more enjoyable too
