Great videos!!!

It is a shame that student videos are not online for I am still having a laugh....

Maybe whe should have a video website - "handicap students - fight for life, drill struggle....."

God I had a good time.

Thanks again Clare

Mac

Nice video Al & Clare - vis was obviously very good on the 6m platform at Vobster.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that video should be used on more advanced training courses as it is an excellent tool to review individual performance and discuss with divers so they can see exactly how they perform the skill set.

Given that a number of people seem to struggle with the deployment of the 4.5ft halcyon blob then it might be a good idea to add this to the video selection.

Hope all is well (assume you didn't film this whilst wearing the RB80 then)

Ian

Hehe. To be fair, all the agencies I've ever worked with have expected their instructors to demonstrate skills in this slow, deliberate fashion with each step over-emphased for clarity. It's what's known as a 'demonstration-quality skill' - ie. nothing like what you'd do in real life but deliberately over done for the benefit of clarity.

Great videos, btw - so is the Sanyo any good? I did look at it myself but some reviews expressed concerns about video quality - what's it like in full HD quality? ie. does it do 1920 x 1080?

But if you demo'd that to students they wouldn't have a chuffing clue how to replicate it.

Hope that explains it.

it is also a good demonstration that a bag deployment doesn't have to be rushed.

edit: doh - which Jason pretty much says above.

It's actually SD HD (secure digitial HD) card - currently using a 4 GB one which allows for about 3 hours of low quality or 45 minutes of HD.

Have to say it's very nice, it's only 1280 x 720 when in HD mode, but for courses I've been leaving it in 640 x 480. Have a look at the following it's a reasonable review.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1 - TrustedReviews

Great video Al.

Sorry I cant green you again it wont let me. Ill try again later.

DiveBhudda

I carry a crack bottle SMB and its quick and simple to use but I still need to be able to asemble my back up SMB and do a manual inflate if necessary. So even if its a tad slow by comparison its still an esential skill

Theres good aregument for saying it should be done like this all the time because in an emergancy it will be second nature.

But to be honist, I cant be arsed as the Crack bottle is several hundred dives old now and I have only ever had one failure

Ahhhhh right yes - sorry, I'm thinking of the Xacti HD1000 which, having checked, does do full HD @ 1920 x 1080 resolution. I see it uses MPEG-4 for video recording - that sure beats the crappy AVCHD that a lot of the hard disk and solid state HD camcorders use (it's a bitch to edit). Looks like you've got a new gadget there, Al!
