but if your using 2 hands you'll be manipulating 2 valves at once reducing the amount of gas lost, probably not going to make a huge difference in the long run as its the difference of seconds.

well, I've sene it happen, and Jason has a hell of a lot more experience than me, so "it can happen" is good enough to think about how to deal with it.

whats the difference between using 2 hands to shut the valves and one hand to shut the valves and waving the torch hopefully in the direction of my buddy?
OK so it's not actually like this but bear with me .... in the DIR diver's mind he has the security of knowing his buddies have enough gas to get him back home safely even if he does not perform any sort of shutdown .... so the shutdown is "bonus". Sticking with the team becomes a whole lot more important then....sure it needs work but, for me, it has its benefits too.

When you have groomed them, just leave the paperwork on the boat, and make sure they have the Probe. The DIS probe is much less subtle than the DIR/GUE one

The gas I need to exit is safe. It's on my buddy's back and he hasn't just had a valve failure. I'm sure you dive thirds too Jason so any gas you save is a bonus not a requirement.

We can pontificate as much as we like on the internet. I've had a second stage go on an ocean dive, and a valve blow on a buddy's set on a cave dive. Adrenaline kicks in for sure but the beauty of reverting to training plus carrying good gas reserves is by the time you get to think "bugger - that's a surprise" the emergency is over.

Soggy, I've said it before, there is no more point your coming on a fundamentals course with a CCR than me doing MOD1 on open circuit. Nor would you need to do the course. Fundamentals is the entry for GUE tech or cave training neither of which can be done on a RB either. Why? because GUE don't believe that RBs are needed at that level. If you think differently, as you clearly do, there are many other agencies out there who will train you.
