Lost diver, I'm sure you are a nice lad. However, you are being an annoying little twerp.

It is possible to have fun without annoying people and seeking attention.

I have been trying to picture in my minds' eye someone doing this two handedly ..... where is the torch whilst you are doing this?

I've had a high pressure seat go. I did a giant stride off the boat, sunk down about a metre, and when I bobbed back to the surface I was surrounded by a lot of bubbles. In my experience, it's more like to happen right at the start which is comforting.

I'd be more worried about impact damage in an overhead environment than anything else.

Like when he walked into the bedroom looking all doe-eyed carrying two 50m reels of black bungie and an assortment of bolt snaps, I took one look, reached for the 'KY' and said "Frankie its party time".
Turns out though that Ben is a kit junkie and wears contact lenses, so it wasn't to be, but I didn't know that now did I.
Waaaay! Frankie, hows things? Kit junkie!!!! Contact lenses ? I can't make the 17th as am moving my gf's stuff back from uni dorms for summer hols.

I don't know. Something I've liked to have seen for a while is some kind of attempt at how the principles could be adapted. A lot of RB divers do dive with standard gases, procedures etc. I know, I know, as long as there are 3 cells powering it blah-di-blah-di-blah... but it would be interesting to see the results. Couldn't be any worse than DIR sidemount

OK, it's not going to be DIR but there are a lot of RB divers that would benefit from the approach. On the other hand it might turn into some sort of bastard lovechild of a drunken visit to Clapham Common by Howard and Chasey.

I suppose there is always Cedric's DIR-Rebreather... Anyone have any spare clothing in the Scouseburgh area? I've just shat myself from laughing and I've got 2hrs before I go home...

Cheers,

Stuart

Shutting the manifold at the same time as the valve would not reduce the ammount of time the leaking valve stayed open so would not reduce the amount of gas lost.

Shutting the manifold first then shutting the valve would mean the valve was flowing for longer so more gas would be lost.

does it matter where the torch is as long as at some point it can be used to communicate moments later, goodman handle would take care of that, its never been a problem when i've had my torch in my hand and i'm checking valves on the RB.

would your buddies not be aware of your light not being around, on most UK dives its one of the obvious ways i know where my buddy is from peripheral vision, if his light stops being were i'm expecting it i automatically turn my head to look for him, more of a naturaly instinct than anything learnt from training. Kind of the same if your walking along talking to some one and then suddenly there not talking anymore, you istinctively look for them, probably the pack mentality from our simian past.

Also, before the pc totally knocks me out of YD, I would object to "dove" 'cos it's just bollox and not a verb but a bird and I agree with most of what JasonP says re shutdowns and kit so that's me fucked

I know this will be well late now as I've been blown out of YD for ages

I meant physically .... I suspect that the light cord would throttle me if I tried to reach the manifold, if I had it in my left hand (which is where I would) let alone be able to easily manipulate the valve.... I would normally pass it to my right hand but that's busy shutting down the right post, so what do I do? drop it? clip it off? I genuinely can't see how it'd work

this might be a really dumb observation, but Mal - you are working from your valves being behind your head. Aren't Soggy's going to be nearer his bum? Even Soggy couldn't throttle himself shutting down down there
