Naah we had some nutter trying to sell that idea ages ago.
It's not possible.

Now if somebody hacks cold fusion so we can dismantle one element and build another we have the trick but how about a better version of the old 'hyperoxide' scrubber material that converts the CO2 it absorbs into O2. All you need is a loop and some DIL to top it up with. If it is hydrophobic you deal with a loop flood by a DIL flush.

Then the DIR boys will be able to sit in their quarries holding depth to the millimetre and trim to the degree and probably make posts to the web congratulating one another on their Halcyon pocket PCs.

As to the OP, I think there will still be a place for people passionate about diving and diving safety, setting a high bar for skills and skill proficiency, pushing the boundaries of those areas. Will it be GUE? Who knows but I expect that, by that time the PADI Pyramid system will have expanded so every one in the world will have a PADI open water cert and virtually everyone will be an instructor ...... even Stevechesh will be considered a Role model

Milldog will have had his DIR implant for a decade. He will be an ambassador for all things DIR. He will groom people like Mr Payne into the ranks.

Him and Mr Payne will have had DIR offspring: George, Jarrod, David and Gary (Gary is the troublesome one - not quite seeing things the way dad and dad want).

Sea diving has been licensed - due to the sodium content. Quarry diving is becoming more popular - with more and more quarries being created.

Mr Chase's Heron has become an unlikely champion of the cause.
