Carabiners are not an entanglement hazard on the rock because there is little to entangle, other than your own rope which you will have control of. Underwater is a different case entirely as fishermen drag nets over our wrecks and leave practically invisible monofilament line. This is the major entanglement hazard, partcularly in low visibility or high task loading situations.
