Imported post <font color='#0000FF'>Hi The bottom one is the DIR one. As the stages are worn on the left side the knob is pointing outwards so you can turn it on and off with your left hand Andy

Imported post <font color='#810541'>Thanks Andy, what confused me was that they were both removed from DIR sites, just wondered if the top photo was a personal preference or was meant for some specific application where you may have to use right hand to turn stage on. I couldn't think of any but thought maybe someone would enlighten me as to some strange practices I am told that cave line is the order of the day for the SPG and not bungee as I was going to use. What stages do you use? If no replies here I will start a new thread, the difference in Aluminium is confusing me and the ones I have been told are the 'Dogs' are apparently difficult to obtain.

Imported post <font color='#0000FF'>Hi I have a luxfer 7Ltr Aluminium but it's not ideal. Our fantastic political system and the Euro Bureaucrats means that the cylinders must be thicker and therefore heavier. The best are Luxfer AL80 or AL40 which you have to get from the states or europe. You can get hold of them if you're willing to pay for the shipping, but I don't know whether any LDS will test them. I'm after some myself so if anyone is going to get any let me know and we can minimise the shipping costs. Andy PS I use bungee to secure the SPG on the stage. I don't know of any use of cave line on a stage SPG but make sure its a plastic SPG to save weight.

Imported post <font color='#810541'>Thanks again Andy. Adam at Capernwray is hopefully getting some 10l stages in which are the slightly negative when full and slightly positive when empty ones. Long story but will be coming from Italy, they will go fast so give him a ring for details if you are interested. Not cheap, I think £170 was mentioned + o2 cleaning. I have used Adams personal ones and they sit just right, so hopefully they will be on thier way soon.

Imported post Like Andy said, the one in the bottom pic. is the "right" way. Valve has to be on the left. Main reason is so that it can be "feathered" with the left hand if the reg is free flowing for some reason. With the valve on the left you can still do this when scootering. You can get the Luxfer AL80's and AL40's in Europe, about £170 for an AL80 is about right. The trouble you will have is getting somebody to fill them. I'm having all sorts f problems with this myself at the moment. I tie the spg back with cave line. It won't break. Bob
