<font color='#0000FF'>Hi

Because smoking and diving don't really mix, as your lungs are very important for diving and you destroy them when you smoke.

If you wanted to lie I guess they wouldn't know but who are you kidding?

I believe there are still places on the Capernwray DIRF in a few weeks. Ring Adam at Capernwray.

Smoking and diving do not mix, there are a lot of people out there who have never smoked and got bent and I am a smoker, dived with them on the same dive same profile and they got it not me - discuss

<font color='#0000FF'>Hi

For every rule there is no doubt an exception especially if one looks hard enough.

However, here is some info on smoking and diving. Not being a doctor it would be unwise for me to comment other than saying that I am able to read and the messages on the packets are enough to persuade me that smoking, generally is not the cleverest thing to do to your body.

<font color='#8D38C9'>smoking reduces your chances of suffering DCS???
new one, anyway.

There are a lot of myths about smoking and diving, all from smokers, such as better sac, etc.

Bollocks

All smoking ever does to you is f**k u up, diver or not.

Pretty sure smoking b4 or after breathing comp. air let alone trimix is gotta be v. bad for your lungs.

Doesnt mean your a good or bad diver tho. Personal choice and personal health choices and all that

Childish I know, but I've always had the urge to spark up in a deco habitat just to see the reaction. (not the explosive, oxygen reaction I mean, the one just before that)

I guess I must be another exception to the rule - I smoke 20 a day, 250 dives, never had DCS/I and have a SAC of around 20. Im not proud of the fact, nor am I going to hide it away.

I would respect the DIR rules and opinions but I expect them also to respect my personal choices (and yes have an opinion)

There's no doubt that smoking (and I'm a smoking diver) reduces your lung function. Which affects your fitness etc etc. So that's a fair reason for dir folks to ban smokers. But woudn't a general test of aerobic fitness serve as a better entry requirement? I may smoke, but can run 20 miles or do a 2 hour working dive. Could a fat/old/unfit person? Perhaps it's the specific impact on gas exchange and thus on decompression and gas consumption thats the issue? In which case the fat/old/unfit person may still be at a greater disadvantage than me. Or perhaps it's that smoking is a deliberately inflicted reduction in fitness to dive, and thus implies a poor mental attitude? Ditto the fat/unfit person?
