I forget where I read it - but somewhere or other I came across the information that DIR says put the long hose between wing and cylinder rather than wing and diver.

Is this true?

And if so, why? Surely this makes it rather hard to deploy the hose when your wing is wrapping the cylinder(s)..?

I use a halcyon 55lb for twin 12s, hose sits neatly behind wing and is no problem deploying-----if anything is to be a problem, it's the cannister light the hose routes under when I use it-----and this isn't with a practised deployment.

Cheers, Malcolm.

With the long hose behind the wing it is protected and retained so as not to get entangled etc.  It isn't a problem deploying and stowing the hose behind the wing.  Like everything else, it just needs a little practice.

The long hose fits nicely between wing and cylinder - no bungees or anything.  Easy deployment too.

Question Thread resurrection

Can I resurrect this thread to ask a quick question?

When the hose is routed behind the wing is it "squeezed" between the cylinder and the wing itself to retain it? not by much just pinching it.

I only ask as I'm having problems keeping the hog loop taut whilst I dive - I don't have a cannister light and I am not a DIR diver, although I'm curious and interested - and the hose seems to have a tendency to ride up the body if you see what I mean. It doesn't get in the way it's just not very well streamlined.

If not how else could it be retained? I did think about adding a boltsnap to it and a d ring to the right hip but I don't quite like the idea of it not being fully free running. It's a 2 metre hose if this helps.

Cheers,

Noel

A couple of options:

1 - Tuck the excess hose into the waist band
2 - Put a knife or a pocket on the harness where the lamp should go and route the hose under that.

Thanks John,

If the hose is under the waist band surely it can't go behind the wing - or am I missing something?

Added: also I've gotten the buckle over that side as per the dir-diver website directions, Couldn't this get trapped?

Cheers,

Noel

Basically the long hose goes behind the wing, forwards at the bottom, then you can tuck a small loop under the harness. It does depend a bit on what kind of wing you have. A lamp/knife would be a better solution though IMHO.
