I am very interested in DIR idea but am not DIR qualified (I learn with PADI). It is my understanding that I could not do DIR course because I do not have twinset and I have not wing BC. Is it that I need to change what little equipment I have so far been able to afford before I can learn more?  Can I not change little bit when  can afford it yet learn from DIR divers? This appears to me very hard on students for we do not have very much money and I have not found many divers in university club who like DIR.
Also which are the shops who sell Halcyon for I would like to inspect quality in person not spend money on internet first.
regards
Pierre

Hi

Your best bet might be to visit Capernwray on 29th/30th November and see the DIR demo. Its not too far from you in North Wales. Capernwray also have a decent selection on display and if you talk to Adam or Phil, they will be able to advise you.

You are right in saying that you need certain equipment before going on a specific GUE course. Standards can be found here GUE

Hope that helps

Andy

You don't actually need to do a course to be DIR - it's not something they hand out badges for.. strange tho that may seem to somebody used to PADI

If it helps you, a single cylinder can be just as DIR as a twinset depending on the types of dives that you undertake... for some reason there is a general misconception by many that to be DIR you have to dive twins, not so... although you would require a wing.

DIR thinking is that if you feel that your diving should require an independant air source then take twins rather than a single and a pony, if you were to take a pony then it would be side slung in a stage/deco bottle fashion..
