Imported post Considering a Halcyon wing but am not sure what size to go for - the 40 or the 55 - I will be using twin 12ltrs and then side mounts - Al ones - but have heard that the 55 has the tendency to wrap itself around the tanks and be difficult to dump all the air - this true and will the 40 give enough lift with all the gear? Cheers folks Dinger

| Imported post There ya go Dinger - buy the 40, if it's too small, swap it with DW. Sorted!

Imported post <font color='#000080'>Hi Being a dive shop UE will want to sell what they have in stock. Bear that in mind as they continue to recommend 55's despite the GUE instructors (andyG and AndyK) telling them they are too big. My advice is to know what you want and why BEFORE ever speaking to dive shop sales staff. Andy

It looks like you have a membrane drysuit so your buoyancy wouldn't be any different. Just curious, Chris

Imported post Hi, I rarely venture onto here, but think I can help. I bought originally a 55 (as I was told this would be right!) I used it for some time, but found that as soon as I got my weight correct with whatever combination of cylinders (up to twin 12's)/stages/suit I was using, it would trap air. The only way to dump all the air with a 55 and twin 12's is to overweight. I swapped to a 40, and the problem is solved-I can dump all the air from my wing, and carry the correct ammount of weight. On the other side, I can get well buoyant at the surface with full back cylinders and up to 6 stages and a scooter.Sad I know I thought I should try! I still use the 55 for 18's etc. If you are planing to use twin 12's, there is no doubt that the 40 is the correct wing. Hope that helps Adam

Imported post Concur with Adam in that 55 was the received wisdom a while back------coincided with me buying my manta ray lookalike from underwater explorers.. Works for me with twin 12s but I am sure the smaller wing is the better option, plus, the 55 is all I know-----and have paid for unless you are BIG cylinder twin diving, the 40 is likely the best buy. Perhaps bungies would help with the 55. Cheers, Malcolm.
