I have my yellow long-hosed DV in my mouth and my black DV necklaced away out of sight.

BUT, my yellow primary is a TX40, whilst my black bakup is a TX100. And I'd recommend the TX40 primary with TX50 backup to you as well - they're the exact same DV with the exact same breathing characteristics.

But you can use the de-tuning knob on the TX50 to make your (upturned) necklaced backup less prone to freeflowing, whereas it has virtually no use on a primary reg in standard diving. I've tried both ways, and finally settled on the TX40 as my primary.

Just an idea

<font color='#FF0000'>As a current PADI instructor using the long hose whilst teaching, it does conform to teaching standards - I called PADI to check before I did it. You are providing an AAS as required, I have left the cover on my ATX yellow for the long hosed reg and the necklace is black, both hoses are black. As mentioned in my previous post as long as the briefing covers what to do there should be no problem. Why not give students access to additional ideas early on in their training.

I just completed my PADI DM course and all through it I dove a long hose with BP/Wing and had no problem. &nbsp;In fact the instructor who took me through the course used me as an example to the OW and AOW students of the different types of gear they'll see and why its important to do a good buddy check and briefing beforehand in order to familiarize yourself with your buddy's gear.

However, I've now switched back to a standard hose for classes and use my long hose only when diving with my regular buddy. &nbsp;I figure that if I needed to share air with a student I'm gonna grab on to that person and control them and take them to the surface. &nbsp;With my regular buddy, we practice DIR S-drills (air share drills) all the time and so the long hose is more useful.

I have a simple cure for that: don't ever separate the necklace from the DV.

I had a removable necklace, it was always a PITA when it parted company with the DV. So now the cable tie that holds the mouthpiece on the DV also holds the bungee from the necklace in place. Far more reliable.

Great news so my dream lives on...

Definitely agree on the giving students access to new ideas &nbsp;

Happy days.

I tend to like the DIR 'Eat Shed-loads of Bacon Butties and Smoke Tabs before a Run or a Dive, whilst drinking alcohol' philosophy - can't help thinking just how close this is to BSAC, though &nbsp;

Which bits of DIR do I use?

Probably some of the bits that they also borrowed from other people.

<font color='#0000FF'>I use a long hose on the right post of my indies, however it's bungied so not exactly DIR.
Works well for me, have tried it hoggie style, didnt like it (oo err..)

Another thing I use is GI's emergency pocket. Loop of bungie through the material and all pocket contents clipped off inside.
Spare mask, wet notes, backup tables, compass etc.
Easy to grab things, just pull everything out and choose the item you want then stuff the others back in.
Modified it a bit by using a retractor for my compass.

Also use one piece harness but have added two more D rings.

HTH

Jewish athlete?

I had not realised Bren had made such a howler.

Perhaps he knows of no distilleries on Arran
