| Imported post They use non-standard fittings and high IP, so they're forbidden by the DIR lot. Apparently a freeflowing Poseidon can empty a cylinder faster than any other reg on the market..

| Imported post Hi I'm not 100% on this so don't shoot me if I'm wrong, but I think some of the reasons that Posiedons are frowned upon is because.. 1) They use non standard hoses and fittings, and therefore do not conform to the standardised equipment protocols required within a DIR team. 2) Some of the regulators used to be (I'm not sure if this is stilll true) of an upstream design meaning that if they failed then they failed shut. 3)Having a yellow shower head stuck in your gob was a massive breach of rule six. Although I think that number one is the only relevant one these days |

Sorry, I was genuinely interested. I always though they were quite respected. Although this is not why I bought them. Cheers FB |

| Imported post Poseidons are very well respected amongst many tech divers. However it's not just a DIR vs 'the rest of the tech divers' issue. Even amongst non-DIR tech divers there are some people who love them (including me) and some people who hate them.

| Imported post I think they are a very respected regulator amongst those who use them Fiona. I seem to remember that UK cave/sump just divers love them, and indie divers also like them because they can have one over each shoulder, usually clipped off close so that they can swap reg's every 50-100 bar, although I'm not sure how this would help an OOG buddy desperate for gas, but then I personally wouldn't dive with someone who had both reg's necklaced, it show's an incredible disregard for any buddy... Now ,before all you independant divers start pulling out the flame throwers, I know it doesn't apply to everyone so chill out, but I've seen many that do necklace both reg's and I've often wanted to go up and ask them what they would intend to do if another diver required their help. But anyway, that's a digression from this thread, sorry Dom, Carry on.. |

| Imported post But UK sump divers don't HAVE a buddy, they go solo, remember? So so far we're on a definite maybe, yeah?

They do have a reputation as something of a "tech" reg, but this is somewhat outdated now. They were probably quite a good deep air reg (due to the high IP) in their time but regs like the diaphragm apex and piston scubapro first stages are just as good in terms of their work of breathing (when using the correct gasses). From the DIR perspective, we all use apex or scubapro which are completely interchangeable. I have scubapro 2nds on Apex 1sts and we can swap and change. That's important when in a team environment. We detune the 1sts and get the same WOB at depth as we get shallow because we use helium at depth. The jetstreams achieve this another way. I'm sure many of you with jetstreams think they are great, but this was posted on the DIR forum........ Bob |
