Using your drysuit feed isn't a problem as after you've shot the bag, you are going up....

I've used one and it works fine, bit costly though (and not very DIR I suppose...)
I think the argument against these is that you can accidentally set off the dsmb bottle in your pocket. I once saw someone clunk the suicide bottle of a Buddy BCD in a car park and set it off, so maybe it's not as unlikely as it sounds.

HTH,

Fraser.

My smb is rolled up tight so if the bottle did go off, I think it unlikely, it doubt it would cause the blob to expand and lift off.
Its also clipped off rather than in my pocket, so if it did expand I believe I could release it before it took me anywhere,
fingers crossed.
Matt

I tried it deliberately once. When it's rolled up, the dump valve releases all the air due to that whole pressure thing.

So while you'd get a load of bubbles and a nasty noise, you wouldn't actually get any buoyancy problems.

And you'd have to inflate manually then, of course..

<font color='#0000FF'>i use 3 dsmbci and find them excellent, they are the best option in my opinion and i have the bayonet type &nbsp;and its not in the same class as the apsmbci.
cost's a few quid more but well worth it especially when diving ccr.never heard of one getting set off underwater by accident though &quot;could be proved wrong&quot; but to argue against a piece of kit based on a next to impossible event is wrong. &nbsp;
cheers

I've heard this argument too, and was a little concerned, so &nbsp;I set it off rolled up in the pool. As Dom says, it just dumps air through the over-pressurisation valve, and even if the velcro failed, it would still have to burst out of my thigh pocket.

Laters,
&nbsp; &nbsp;Janos

Dave,
Cheers, would be good to have a play with one in Malta before deciding what to get.

I personally use the 3 Foot Halcyon closed. Did previously use the 6foot which, whilst not impossible, I found, as I think Bob mentioned, that I had to have it a little to close to everything else when inflating it from the drysuit inflator. The beauty of the 3 footer is, as AG showed us on the Rec Triox, you can inflate it fully, at surface, in 3 breaths. So you don't need to disconnect/reconnect the direct feed at all, simply pop the reg out of your mouth briefly, inflate a little, take another breath, inflate a bit mroe if necessary etc, with whatever depth you're at controlling how much you need to put in the SMB.
I find that works pretty well, although, like everything, requires practise!

Plus the 3 foot easily folds away and can be left attached to a spool ready for deployment in one of my thight pockets.
