That has always been my objection to the DIR philosophy. I am mainly configured DIR, some of which I arrived at before learning about it and some I have taken on board since because I thought it was a neat idea.
However I have certain bits that are not, I have specifically went a different direction because I either tried the DIR version and didn't like it or found a better way (I think) all to tailor my kit to me and my diving.
I have always been annoyed by the implication that if I am not "doing it right" I must be "doing it wrong" and there are certain little bits that I don't really like or find impracticable.

Not according to my most recent Halcyon catalogue, no I just think it clashes nicely with my blue drysuit and red wing..

I will emphatically refrain from mentioning a notorious bit of yellow dive gear at this point

Hi

Ah, now we get to it. For every action there is a positive or negative reaction so DIR must result in a DIW. Who is it who made this implication? Only you Rupert, and it is only natural, as we all have an inferiority complex of some description (just look at the beauty products industry) (Tell me, does my bum look big in my custom, cave cut, black TLS350 )

That is only true when you limit your vocabulary in such a manner. How about considering that you are

Doing it Better
Doing it Best
Doing it Correctly (Chasey, as it is sometimes termed )
Doing it Delightfully
Doing it Simple
Doing it Skilfully

Doesn't that make you feel better? Being both sales man and managing director, I find it helps to view my glass as half full rather than half empty.

Andy

Cave-cut?? Cave-cut?? I've heard it all now

Oi, Mega-Arse, can you please stand to one side as you're blocking the light!!

Seriously, I've seen Wee Andy (Wetlettuce) in his Speedos on the dive-boat in Sharm and his bum is not big - it's f*cking huge!

I jest of course: a more DIR-proportioned arse once could not hope to see
