Has anyone bought or thinking of buying the Halcyon Shuttle or Raft? And has anyone been in a situation when one of these would have helped?

No - I had not even heard of them until your post. So I searched and I found.

I suspect I'd be grateful I had one if I wasn't picked up by the boat after a dive for a while.

I think I would want to see one in action before I would even consider it.

I forgot which bit of the forum I was in - the above is MY (non DIR) opinion.

But surely, DIR divers don't need one, like they don't need EPIRBs, as they'll never get separated from the boat..?

Probably of more use to people diving in the wilderness, rather than those of us in as busy a place as the English Channel.

Dominic,

I'm not so sure. After a couple of mid Channel (right on the edge of the shipping lanes) dives on our Normandy trip last year I would not have minded having one as my SMB. In fact, something the size of a "bouncy castle" might have been about right.

I like the idea of having one to hand, especially as they can be stowed in your MC storage pack. But if I´ve read the info on them correctly, they seem to be aimed at Dry suit divers as you inflate using the suit hose.
