| Imported post Barrie, Mark...Agree with you both. I was thinking more on the lines that a few people who have a genuine interest in DIR and don´t know of any DIR divers who would ´Sponser´them, may feel that the door has been shut in their face. I think I´m right in believing that most if not all GUE info, certainly JJ´s " Doing it Right ", is only available in English...It could be viewed that the main source of info on DIR in your own language is lost. Just A thought... |

| Imported post Although a bit harsh (As in the guy didn't appear to have given any warning) I can see the reasoning for it, as Mark say's a lot of DIR lists require new members to be introduced and sponsored by existing members.. and some also demand a proven progression with training.. The reasons must be obvious.... Any thread that is even remotely connected to DIR posted on any dive forum anywhere in the world very quickly degenerates into a slanging match with no winners or losers, everyone leaves pissed off and the virtual diving world is a worse place for it... DIR only lists have evolved simply because they are the only place where generally.. (GUE's Quest apart) DIR divers can get together and discuss everything from equipment to what if scenarios to dive trips etc without it all falling apart.. It's a sad fact but it's true... edit: Scubadog, just read your post mate... you have a point but surely if this guy re-apply's and can prove a real interest in DIR then there shouldn't be a problem, I'm assuming that the guy who runs the list figures that some will re-apply and others wont bother and that gets rid of those who aren't bothered.... just a thought... Dave. |

| Imported post Can't see a problem with it myself, There is plenty of DIR info and non exclusive DIR forums out there for those who want it and I can't see a problem with the DIR boys having exclusive lists where they can post what if's and other questions without it being picked apart by everyone who who is spoiling for an argument. IMHO of course Daz

| Imported post I don't really see a problem with this myself either. If they want to have a list that is restricted to pure DIR divers then that's their own choice. Anyone can set up another list for almost-DIR divers or Hogarthian divers. A good example is the Doing It Simple (DIS) list. Doing It Simple

| Dutch DIR, or 'DDIR' (pronounced 'Huggamumphanon'), is, to all intents and pruposes, the same as its UK/US derivatives; the only difference being that they have added difficulty (and with it, built-in buoyancy issues) in getting their stainless-steel spring straps around their clogs. This can make for pseudo-comical scenes whilst kitting-up at the water's edge. They also have a 'Primary' and 'back-up' clog: a new dispensation which UK practitioners of DIR are yet to take up. OK, OK, I'll get mi coat....
