Cedric Verdier isn't DIR. Nor can you believe what he says online it seems.
Digs.

The RB80 is an SCR - a semi closed rebreather. It requires no O2 sensor, it cannot go hyperoxic, it works with the standard DIR configuration allowing long hose donation as normal, it incorporates a large amount of bailout as it has double tanks on the unit as standard both of which can be used to drive it (no separate O2 tank) and it's failure modes are intuative. An RB80 can fit in with open circuit teams and is dived with the same protocols which are taught during all GUE training. A Meg is none of these and the DIR rebreather scheme had nothing to do with DIR diving. Cedric's adoption of the DIR letters was little more than an attention grabber - and an admission that a standard would be beneficial - even if he could not agree on what it should be.
I'm really not going to go into an argument of all the above. I wrote an explanatory thread where we covered most of it in quite some detail. Link here
I've answered in the hope it is not a ruck causing thread. Surely YD is capable or at least one DIR thread which does not turn into silliness - the last RB80 one which I linked to was interesting and promoting good debate - apart from the occasional childish intervention by those who are not capable of better![]()

I went to JJs talk on the RB80 at Eurotek where he initially stated that all rebreathers contain single point of failures, such as mouthpiece and hoses (which is true).
He then went on to discuss the fact that with the RB80 you have you bailout on your back in the RB80 supply gas. As the RB80 still has single point of failure at the mouthpiece/hoses, you might not be able to access this backgas.
Do you carry separate bailout as well, or have another reg connected to the unit? Just curious, not trying to start a bun fight.
