| Dear All, Mr Kerslake has hopefully earmarked me for one of the courses being run in October. I'm trying to decide which wing would serve me better. The Eclipse 30 and 40 are both advertised as single cylinder, but after speaking to a couple of guys here the 40 is somewhat overkill for a single. I intend to take the course using single cylinder, but I'm sure sometime next year I will switch to twins. My question is this: As I intend to switch to twins next year, and don't really want to buy two wings, would the Eclipse 40 but suitable for a single, bearing in mind I will switch later? Whilst using a single cylinder, what's the stance regarding using a 3L bottle side slung, ok or not ok? Many thanks, Ian

| To start with the Eclipse wings are not suitable for twinsets, so you would need a 2nd wing for the twinset anyway. I think the 30lb Eclipse is probably OK, (I've got a 27lb pioneer and it's just about OK for 1 side slung, and a Pro 14 canister lamp). HTH John

| I think a 40 is too big for singles and a 30 is too small for twins. I plan on looking for a 27lb Pioneer for single holiday diving c/w ali backplate but use a explorer 40lb for my UK twin diving. HTH

| The 40lb wing is definitely a bit big for singles, and even the 30lb eclipse is a bit floppy because of the double bag. If you can get hold of a 27lb Pioneer it is the DBs; seriously comfortable and streamlined. I think you can get them mail order from the states, or you could try E-Bay. UK shops cannot sell them as they are not CE approved. You could also try the Oxycheq or Akir wings which are very similar. I have dived my 27lb with both aly and steel backplates, wet and dry, and I love it. It had enough lift with 2 x AL80s (1 stage rigged) diving wet in the Red Sea. That, by the way, is a not a DIR kit config. as it equates to diving independent twins. I will probably go to DIR hell for my transgression, where you are only allowed to breath air through poseidon jetstreams, bungeed wings and ankle weights are compulsory and everything else is made by Custom Divers. On the plus side, Tibbs and I got close to an hour on the Thistlegorm (not counting Deco) and had it to ourselves for the last half an hour. Good luck with your search for a wing.

| Everyone seems to worry about whether to get the 30lb or the 40lb. If they made a 35lb wing everyone would be happy! r :-)
