Proteus Torch Problems

Having just reviewed (and bought) the Proteus 3 system and given it such good praise I was a bit dismayed to discover by my own action; and then learn from others, of a problem with the head. When turning the knurled focus ring at the back of the head to adjust the beam spread I felt a crack at the front and then all was dark! Looking inside the head the bulb was broken and rolling around, the head had not flooded. Initially I just put it down to bad luck but I've since learnt that this has happened to a few others. Basically if you're holding the head by the front while you turn the focus ring you can overtighten the front retaining ring and crush the bulb.

Once I've installed my new bulb the first thing I'll be doing is too put a few turns of electric tape around the retaining ring to ensure it can't move. Others may find this saves them £64 a pop.

All that said I still think it is one of the best wreck diving systems on the market

Yep, I heard this also and got the fixed focus version which I love - lots.
