Smile Diving out of Lyme Regis

SWMBO has suggested Lyme Regis or nearby for a summer break in 2005. Can anyone recommend some good dive boats in the area.

I am planning to book a weekend in late July or early August and probably a day or so either side of the weekend for getting wet and it will be a YD event.

Has anyone dived using Blue Turtle, and if so, any good?

I will be looking at Sport diving to a max of 35m.

Thanks for your assistance

Ian

Thumbs up

Hi Ian,

yes I have dived with Doug from Blue turtle and can recommend him, good fast boat and he did a mean lasagne for lunch you would be fine for many of the most popular wrecks around there at a 35m max

Safe diving,
Steve.

I have to disagree, Doug does not have a great reputation, he has a bad habit of going out no matter what the weather.

Lyme Bay to stay, Weymouth/Portland to dive from 1 hour drive away. Or 1 hour west to Exmouth.

I'm not sure if any boats operate from West Bay (Bridport).

I've used "Lindy Lou" out of West Bay, a good few years back (98?) ,a Lochin 33,not masses of space, but the skipper seemed Ok. Not sure if he's still there though.

Lyme Regis

Just heard back from Doug @ Blue Turtle.
He has one weekend free for 2005 23/23 Oct. That doesn't fit my plan so I will have to consider some midweek stuff instead

... and in a cut-down Offshore 105 it can be quite uncomfortable! He's good for mid-week stuff though - we've been out with only 5 or 6 people on the boat which gives enough room for kit.
There's also Miss Pattie in Lyme Regis skippered by John Walker, but it is an old fishing boat .

I've taken many divers out with Doug in the last three years and and rate him as one of the best skippers we use, simply put he cares and trys to ensure a good day is had by all on the boat. Mid week trips best value. Recommend Naggs head Silver st l/Regis for B & B (Debbie and Michael)
Yes been out and bounced a bit but also been told 'trips off!' and we drive from Ipswich so disagree that he 'goes out in all weathers'

Blue Turtle

I agree with JonDive, I also have been out diving with Doug many times over the last three years. I have no complaints. He is a professional & competent skipper. I have been in the situation where Doug has said at the jetty that 'It's a little rough', 'You can have your cash back, or we can do something a little shallower/closer to home - its up to you'. You can't say fairer than that. Don’t just take it from me, ask yourself ‘Why are all his weekends in summer 2005 fully booked ?’
