Angry Anglesey Launch permit

Just been reading that Anglesey county council are to increase launching fees for 2005, last year a season ticket would have cost me £100 (£60 for local tax payers), this year it's said to be £200, how the hell do they justify a 100% increase ? Its not as if there are any decent facilaties at the sites, you even have to pay additional charges for parking at Trearddur !

I think they beleive that anyone who has a boat is loaded and so they can fleece 'em and they won't feel it. The reality is not all boaters are rollin in it, add all the costs together and it soon mounts up.

Room for a billy no mates draeger diver on your boat AngleseyDiver ?

Right, feel better after a rant.

appy new ear veryone hic#!.

Question

As I am obviously totaly ignorant? What is the benafit of buying a launching permit? I thought you just turned up with a boat and paid on the day? Is this a residents thing that you would then not pay any more on a daily basis?

Hi Karl,

I have my doubts about the local Council round here sometimes and their ability to provide even the most basic of services for divers - be that off RIB or hard boat.

Anyway, AFAIK there's no charge for Amlwch Port slip and free parking (if there is a charge the H/master is never around- another skiving council appointee) Can be a bit awkward- need a 4x4 and break-back type trailer but harbour is very solid all the way down to the sill.

As for hardboats- your welcome providing you're willing to risk being lured to the yellow-side

ATB,
Terry

James I think the daily launch fee was about £10 - £12. For some fishermen / dive clubs who use Treaddur Bay on a regular basis it was more cost effective to buy an annual permit.

What you need is to find someone local who has a permit and the key and all use that one, If you all want to club together and get a key I would be happy to hold it and meet whoever wanted to launch or it could be left at one of the dive shops.I only know two people who have keys for Llanalian slip, but a lot of boats get launched there. The local council do everything possible to stop tourism.

Thumbs up Just as well

we have ways of tracking you down and enforcing a change of mind. However the Taffia are some of the most sociable diveing people that I have met and further more when you walk into the shops around there they realy do have a tendancy to speak in their own language wich seems to be broad lancastrian or scouse these days. Lets face it the old adage has worn thin and jobs worths can be found any where.

so whose got the bent key then.

see you latter on this year and are we still up for Easter Elf.

Funny enough John I had a key for that slip all last year and handed it back at the end of season, it was well worth the money, they charged £25 for it but you got £20 back when the key was returned, only problem is being restricted to that 1 slip

BTW anyone know if you can still launch at Caemes Bay, I noticed a post up last time I was there but it wasn't locked up.

I can find out about cemaes slip for you, I'll see if I can find any other free slips around, I know some caravan sites have them.
