Talking What does it take to float my boat?

Right......

So I have my lovely shiny rib (which I don't!) What would I need to make it legal to run dive trips? Excluding of course the qualification side of it

Ian

What about this link for starters:

http://www.bsac.org/techserv/diveboat.htm#boathandler

Gives a good overview and includes the SOLAS regulations.

Deep pockets full of useless cash .

Otherwise .............

Boat has to pass a survey / inspection for being ' CODED ' .. which Dave / skipper can tell you about for RhIB's.

You need a skippers commercial endorsement for the CAT # , given to your vessel.

A helpful diver, willing to come out with you for a few trips to tell you where you are going wrong.

I'm willing to offer my services as long as you cover my expenses, I reckon a couple of dozen trips should give you a few good ideas

hi ian

You need to get your boat coded. the MCA will tell you how to organise this in your area but it is quite strict covering all aspects of the boat. motors, electronics, vhf (and licence), hull, fire precautions, liferafts/lifejackets (bcds dont count), etc etc etc ad nauseaum.
You will also need commercial passenger vessel insurance and a skippers ticket yourself (RYA Yachtmaster or Boatmans licence)
Its not a short ....or cheap process to start and can cost upwards of £1500 per annum to maintain.
All this if you are going to carry passengersfor fare or reward.
Otherwise get yourself a boathandlers ticket from the RYA or similar and stick to you and your mates!

you'll have a job getting a boatmans licence they stopped issuing them years ago all they do is renew existing ones, seems the rya have it all sewn up as far as commercial quals go .
the old boatmans is only good for 3 miles offshore which ain't worth a w---k these days if your a charter skipper.

Local boatmans licences and silly ones the council issued are not issued, and the ones that are still about around here are being phased out, the old GRANDFATHER RIGHTS etc etc etc .....
