Question Weymouth dive charter - Who???

Hi Guys

I was thinking about booking a boat out of weymouth to dive a couple of the 40 to 50m ish wrecks. The only one I have looked at is Wey-Chieftain, but I would apprieciate comments on anyone descent in the area for this kind of dive. I know it will be difficult to get a w/e, so I was going to do 2 days mid week anyway.

Thanks

James

I can recommend Dive Time - had some excellent trips on her, Paul the skipper is great and supplies some excellent home-made soup between trips. There's plenty of kitting up space and importantly a lift

Other boats I've used down there in the past include Autumn Dream, Kyaratoo but I've not used them for a while so not sure if they're still active.

Simon

Edit:oops, meant divetime not skin deep

Weymouth boats

Autumn Dream
is still running, but Len has a new boat now. the new boat is a lot bigger then the old one , it also has bunks down in below, not pohs, but you can get your head down for the night.no need to look for B&B, plus maggie always puts on a good bit of grub, some times a bit to much, but it always goes down well after the dive.
here is lens mobile number 07966361961
hope this is of help
Dave

Dive Time

I often use Dive Time, an offshore 125, huge deck space, plenty of room for kitting up and storage, room for all divers onboard in the wheel house, fridge and microwave on board. Dive Time is equipped with all modern navigational aids, carries oxygen, has plenty of space for changing and has a toilet onboard. It also has a lift so getting back on board, even with twinsets and stages is easy.

The skipper, Paul, is very knowledgeable and friendly and always has an additional crew memeber on board.

The website is http://www.divetime.info/ but it's being revised at the moment.

I can heartily reccomend Wey Chieftain - Grahame (the skipper) was doing the scary 80m+ mid channel stuff himself 15 years ago, so knows what's what when it comes to tekky diving - the boat is (or rather will be once the new one's finished) well set up for the deeper stuff.

He's also v. active in researching and finding new wreck sites - he used to work with Andy Smith (original skipper of the old Skin Deep) to find and dive the new wrecks, now works with Ian to do the same. Like Ian he will do the long trips that some of the other day boats don't push, and he & Ian share the info that they get.

Tho having said that, I've dived off every boat listed above (Dive Time, Autumn Dream, Skin Deep & Wey Chieftain) and they are all excellent.

Skin Deep, skippered and owned by Ian Taylor, probably one the most established deep wreck boats on the south coast.
Very quick cat, with lift and everything you need to do the dives within 70m of Weymouth...

Tel:07971977595

Ian will put you on anything you want, or have the marks for. Used skin deep loads of times, cant recomend Ian enough.

Tango is also very good - again loads of deck space to accommodate 12 techie divers and kit and a lift.

Question

Thanks for the replies guys, all good stuff.

I had another brain wave, do any of you know charters that do an individual booking on a diver basis so if I don't fill the boat I don't get landed with a bill, they just charge for the no. of divers going, usualy a min of 6 or 8 etc.?

I'll post a thread about the possibility of the trip and see what responce I get, but keep the info coming as I have never there and local knowledge is the best there is.

Thanks

James

Can't guarantee it but if you're after hard boats I suppose you could give Budgie's place a shout - if you ask far enough in advance they may be willing to organise one of their boats on a 'shuttle' type basis. Have a look at Dive Dorset

Alternatively if you're not too worried about a hard boat you could try Julian Whyte who's got a couple of ribs - he'll normally organise trips if you've got a minimum of 6 but sometimes he'll look at it for 4. If you need a phone number for him let me know.
