    YD Charter boat skippers.

    Couple of questions..

A new south cat arrived at Dover yesterday ,,, he had onboard the new CoP that came out last week , he printed off the MCA website, I've trawleed the site and i'll be buggered , can't find it ,,,, Any pointers ?

What was intresting to read is that LIFERAFTS don't need to be serviced yearly now ,,,, only on the makers recommended service intervals..oh and carrying the extra man ......... 12 passengers and 3 crew.

Also, having had a phone call today from the HSE over dive boats carrying compressors..... bloody confusng this one is ,,, might see what the PBA has to advise on ...
" you can't advertise and sell air or other gas from your vessel, if you haven't got the nesseray - compressor insurance/ boat insurance / business insurance. " plus as the boat is a coded business, it needs a certifcate for selling air on display .....

When he went into tax & Vat , that blew my head to bits ,,,,,

    Any thoughts or advice ?

    Red face

Not too sure about this one, it's technicaly beyond me, but I would ask the guy from H&S just what he would recomend you do, and see if he can give the advice on what he would expect to see on your boat to make it right.

The guys I have spoken to from H&S have been into prevention rather than cure, hope the guys down your way are the same.

    Harmonised Code

It is MGN 280 that you want:
    https://mcanet.mcga.gov.uk/public/c4...%20Annex_1.pdf
In case the link doesn't work ...
    1. MCA web site
    2. Guidance and Regulation
    3. Marine Guidance Notes
    4. Scroll down almost to the bottom
    5. Sit down with a few beers - it is 148 pages long!

    No Mate,

On arrivial of a South Cat here ( Neptune ).... he was showing me the revised up to date code that he downloaded 10 days ago from the CG site, had the date of 1 May 05 on the front cover.

He pointed out to me the new liferaft rules hich i saw for myself in black and white.... plus a lot of other stuff for CAT II's.
Also he has a diver lift on the back , but his surveyor is making him put a ladder on it aswell, ( He is getting the same as mine ).
When i see him next , i'll get the exact file / name / number and get it to you.

I would be interested, too, in knowing the source of Neptune's new CoP, if you can find out. I rang MCA a week ago and was told that the new SCV code had been published as MGN 280, and that it would be isssued as a Merchant Shipping Notice when 'legal loose ends have been tied up'.

BTW, I'm not Thames and not Coastguard - chartering out of Poole.
