Very true - and I appreciate the suggestion, and I don't rule them out completely (we've not been up there in a good couple of years, and they might have changed)

I notice that you didn't comment about the ferry though! Cheers, Paul
Not having used them, I couldn't comment - but go on, you know you want to

I dont think that non divers would enjoy Lochaline. There is nothing there other than a sand mine and a sports club and a hotel. Most of our club find a second night out in Lochaline as rather boring.

Where as Oban has much more to offer. If you are only doing a few days then a couple of dives on the Breda could be done. Then the wrecks on Ruadh an Ridire, the puffer etc, then the thesis. also some at loch melford.

We use the hardboat Haljmar Bjorge, it is fantatatic but it is not really a day boat as it provides full accomodation and meals. The food is of a very good hotel standard.

We are using the HB in a months time. The trip being booked up 11 months ago before the last one finished.

Regards

Gary

Gannet

I Can recommend Adrian Lauder and his boat Gannet. They normally sail out of Dunstaffanage Marina, but they have picked us up (Aquanorth) near the Harbour.http://www.obandive.co.uk/index.html. Very accomodating and friendly.

Kylebhan Charters operate out of Oban. try Jim Kilcullen on 07775508242.
I've been on her as a liveaboard.

Q. Why did the razorbill raise her bill?

A. So the sea urchin could see her chin!

Thumbs up Recommended

Try Dave Ainslie & his boat "Porpoise II". As far as I recall its about 5-10 miles south(?) of Oban in a smaller harbour

www.divescotland.com

Excellent skipper - can put you on wrecks and grteat scenic dives. He's a diver himself (BSAC FCD / NI I think) and knows his stuff and the dive sites

Dave is based on Seil Island, it takes him a good 90 min to get up to the SoM but there is some cracking diving (better scenic than SoM by far) around the area without needing to go that far. There are not many wrecks though!

Mull is good for non-divers, and divers too......IIRC The Mishnish???

As another option, have you thought of shore diving? Good sites at Easdale Quarry (sea), just below the castle (Oban), just south of Puffin divers, Loch Melfort 2 or 3 sites. These are easy access senic dives with loads of life, better than any inland site you may have tried.

Cheers, Paul
