| As I am originally from north Devon I was very pleased to dive for the first time at Lundy on Friday and had a great time. I went with Obsession out of Ilfracombe had a great view of the coast on the way out, despite the rough seas. The boat and crew gave me confidence that the day would be good ( they even loaded my gear while I parked the car - 2.80 all day at the far side of the harbour from the pier)! The diving at Lundy was different to anything else I've seen in the UK (or anywhere else). We did a big drift dive at high speed due to the currents hovering above and occasionally through the kelp forests. After the initial adrenaline rush quite enjoyable. Lunchtime was spent snorkeling with the seals. We also dived the Robert which while not being spectacular was still interesting with enough nooks and crannies to keep interest. I am looking forward to the trip Dave_S has organised next May already. The boat I was on was the older Obsession. It still was very good with plenty of space for 12 sets of gear and divers. It has a side door making re-entry to boat not too difficult. I was grateful to get air fills from the local Ilfracombe BSAC clubhouse who were happy to help out despite me being a SAA diver. They even let me buy a beer! |
