News from Dive Dorset

Diving in Portland, Dorset, has gone through many changes over the last few decades. The diverse range of diving from wrecks and reefs to technical or training dives has helped the area to become one of the most popular diving destinations in Northern Europe.

Dive Dorset Ltd, the area's leading dive charter company, has now reached an agreement with Scimitar Diving of Weymouth.

Effective for the 2008 season Scimitar Diving will purchase a significant part of Dive Dorset assets which will enable them to move their base of operations from Weymouth harbour to Castletown in Portland. Scimitar Diving will continue to operate the dive vessel 'Scimitar' which will be complemented by the acquisition from Dive Dorset of their similar Evolution 38 which will be refitted and renamed 'Cutlass'.

Scimitar Diving have also acquired the filling station and will be supplying all types of diving gases.

The sale of these assets will enable the owners of Dive Dorset to focus on their continually expanding businesses in Castletown - the dive shop and training facility Underwater Explorers, and the Aqua Hotel - ensuring that these businesses can continue to meet the needs of their customers in the future.

Scimitar Diving, Underwater Explorers and Hotel Aqua will, as separate companies, be working together to provide a unique and exciting package for all their customers.

Dive Dorset will continue to take bookings and operate as normal right up to the transfer and hope to ensure a seamless transition of the diving services provided in Castletown

I heard the new manager of the Green Shutters in Castletown knows a little about diving, and is not adverse to listening to scuba stories until well into the wee hours ...

Ask Bexley Scuba ... the gossip is that they had to be pried off the bar!!!
