Just to add THE best boat in Abbs - The Lady Gail.

Call Billy or Alison Aitchison on TEL: 01890 - 771288

Billy will take out very small groups if you ask him nicely and he's the only skipper with his own compressor.

Peter Gibson is v good too

Billy and Peter are both excellent skippers but, having dived with both, I have to agree with Gav that Billy's boat is much better. It is roomier, better fitted out (crates under the benches for your gear instead of stuff spread out all over the deck), easier to dive from (giant stride instead of a backward roll from a rather high railing) and easier to get back on to – you can climb the ladder with fins on and step straight on board instead of having to remove them and then struggle up a not very good ladder and clamber over the railing.

Billy's compressor was not working when we were there in September, by the way.

Billy and Alison are great people and their accommodation is of good diver standard. Alison also cooks a good breakfast.
Having said all that, Peter is a very nice guy too.

I pay for the skipper really, not the boat. If you havent got a box for your kit, then keep it in a goodie bag as you do on a rib.

The only bad thing about peters boat i found was that the distance from the gunwale to the floor is about 6 inches longer than my leg, so when i struggle back up the ladder with the twins on, i end up sitting on it with all that weight on a very.......sensitive..... bit of my anatomy. I like getting up the ladder with no fins on. As long as you are ok at getting them off in the water - no probs.

Mind you, any ladder is a pint of pee compared to the Jane R....

In that case it's a toss-up between Peter and Billy. As regards keeping your gear in a goody bag, your goody bag takes up space too and the fact is, space is very limited on Peter's boat. I'm sure you'd find getting into the water and getting back on board a lot easier with Billy. Nothing wrong with Peter – he's a nice bloke and excellent skipper – but his boat just doesn't campare with Billy's, in my opinion.

Smile New Abbs' Charter Boat - 'TOPLINE'

Hi All,

Here's some charter boat news for you all, I hope you dont mind a Scottish imposter posting on your site...

I am Paul (son of Ali) from St.Abbs and I formerly owned the catamaran 'FELIX', which was in the harbour towards the end of the season.

Since then, I have sold FELIX and I now have a new vessel coming next week called 'TOPLINE'.

She has a low gunwhale and it'll be very easy to get in and out of the water. A ladder mounted on the starboard side is used for the diver getting out of the water.

Most dates available for next year and she's licenced for 12.

For bookings, you can contact me on:

TEL: 01890 - 771945 or Mobile: 07710 - 961050

Cheers,
Paul.

Hey Paul,

Welcome to YD - no need to apologise mate, Abbs is firm board favourite!

When you say licenced for 12, is that twelve in total (including crew) or 12 divers, plus crew?

Does she have a head? Microwave? Tea & coffee and all the usual fit-out?

Good luck and I think we can safely say we'll be booking you shortly!
