I know of 2 boat share co-operatives where groups of divers have purchased there own boats and share dive places at only the cost of running the boat, so an average in shore trip on a wreck costs about £1.50 per person. The added benefit of having to pay no insurance or launching fee's if your quick and use distraction tactics on the slipway pays for itself. They don't even have marine radio's or flare's saying a mobile is fine and a flashing yellow beacon is fine so again another saving. And no diesel tasting tea or out of date O2 packs or flares where no one knows their location.

So what do you think is it time to rebel against the money pit charter machines ?

<font color='#000080'>Im really glad my other half is busy cooking the tea when im posting this, he would go MENTAL if he read that (he is a coastguard). &nbsp;
These guys need to buck up their ideas and get real. &nbsp;Your cash for charters goes to pay for things like an O2 kit, flares, VHF etc etc. &nbsp;

Christ, some people can be so &quot;knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing&quot;.

Oh yeah and a flashing yellow beacon means either you are a hovercraft or a trawler shooting nets.....

I understand the savings but totaly dissagree with most of the comments.

£1.50 a dive - get real. Who forks out the several thousand pounds to buy it in the first place? No insurance, what if it gets nicked or dents your car? Extra petrol to tow it there? The additional time, storage, maintenance, effort??? - and as for doing away with the safty equipment!!, no wonder your avatars a smoking skull!? We have two ribs in our club and I have never dived off either of them in 4 years because for a few quid I'd rather pay a skipper and do without the hassle.

If you live close to the sea it would be a bit more attractive for some, but I would still hope that most would let good scence prevail with the use of it.

come on guys some one who talks with such little experince isn't worthy of a reply never mind a debate
he's obviously been on a lot of hard boats to come to this conclusion !
as for the money pit  , ask how many dive charter skippers if they do it just for the money.
a 6 month dive season and small fortune outlay for a legally coded boat.
get real

Yea Yea Yea I hear yer safety and all that, but where do most people do there diving, abroad. one of the most popular places let's say the Red Sea, next time you are out their start by locating their safety equipment see if anyone does a check on it, see if the 02 pack comes out and a contents and functional check is done, look at the record card and date of last inspection, see what crew and guides/instructors identify themselves as first aid and oxygen therapy trained personel. Then listen to the safety briefing on action to take in the event of fire or sinking and location of life vests. Then watch decomposed o/rings blow out on the A clamps like a firework show, inspect your 1st stage when you return home looks like its been in a fire, when was the last time filters were changed on those compressors or an annalasys done on air quality. &nbsp;Troll I may be but double standards I don't have. (And Im still waiting for a safety brief on a UK boat) what was it we pay for ? (Oh and I do have my own rib).

Brendan, Perigrine and the Oban yellow taxi Co. &nbsp;all give out safety briefings before every trip. Where the O2 kit is, where the fire ext. is, where the first aid kit is, how to operate the VHF incase skipper has a problem, abandon ship procs(In all fairness this involves &quot;You'll know when to abandon, coz you'll see me jumping overboard&quot, how he likes to pick up/drop off.

You're obviously using crappy operators! It would be interesting to tell us all who.
