Bad back

Hi,

Every time I move my twins about or try them out I pull my back or the bit at the top of my back in between my shoulders. Is there any strengthening exorcises I can do so that my lower back and the top middle part is stronger and can deal with this weight?

I do lift properly so dont believe its an issue with bending my legs.

I just add at this point I have note used the twins in the water yet. I do get the same problem with my 15 litre as well. After a days diving my back feels like its been jumped on by a very large person.

Thanks in advance

Jamie

It sounds like you need to work on your traps, lower back and (oddly enough) your abs. Luckily enough these are fairly east to build up by doing simple exercises daily but I'd recommend seeing a fitness instructor or booking an assesment at the gym before you start to make sure you don't strain anything or damage your back further.

I dive twin 12s with a 7l steel stage fairly regularly and do a nightly abs routine, two CV sessions and a weights session (chest, shoulders and triceps) a week to help make them more bareable!

Nick and Julia thanks for the reply. Do you have any on-line resources that I could look at to see what sort of exorcises I need?

Thanks

Jamie

try archery, or at least get the training tool that archers use when they cant shoot a bow. It strengthens the muscles between the shoulder blades, It looks like a bow handle and has two rubber tubes leading from it so you use it as a bow. When I did my back in earlier in the year it repaired very quickly and the physio suggested it was because my tummy and shoulder muscles were pretty good so supported my back well.

I'd be very wary of following an online resource until you understand the background of strength training as you could do yourself a mischief if you blindly follow some exercises. They also tend to be rather poor as they assume you have s certain lever of knowledge when it comes to the subject. However, I can recommend The Complete Book of Abs if you want to learn more about fitness. Yes, its a very cheesy American book but it also covers back exercises and general fitness as well as abs in a very clear, easy to follow way (with lots of pictures! ).
