DAN (Dive Insurance)

I'm thinking of Joining DAN, the main reason is the insurance aspect of it. Although I like the fact that they are diver specific and once contacted will take over organising an emergency etc.

Is there any downsides here? What about the premium's £93 for the Sports Diver (master plan) plus a further £50.00 a year for 110k life insurance. Total £143. for a pretty comprehensive package

Are there any comparable services offered by anyone else? Any other decent insurance groups out there?

TA

I've just taken out full family travel and diving insurance with Buddy. The travel side covers all aspects of travel worldwide for four of us and the diving covers us all worldwide and UK. The cost was £187.00 for us all. I spent quite a bit of time emailing all the usual suspects, DAN, Scubashore, Buddy, Westfield etc.. and found that buddy catered for our needs the best.

Hope that helps matey,

Took out DAN insurance for trip to South China Sea, doesn't impose any depth restrictions (see later post). Some do, so you need to check this...

[EDIT] I took out the basic cover & it doesn't provide basic travel insurance for lost luggage etc. Not sure any DAN policies do.

I think mine is 50m, but I believe if you want to go deeper they can arrange cover accordingly.

Premium for Buddy for all year round Travel plus life cover is £145.48 .. so they are pretty compareable except DAN gives 110k death benefit (Not that dying is that beneficial to the dead one but hey)! And Buddy is 25k.. Hmm..

I have enough life assurance to keep any beneficeries in the lifestyle they would like to become accustomed to.

For £180 odd quid, four of us are covered for the next year for any travel or diving upsets. With a minumum of 4 holidays booked within the next year the cost and cover suits us. It's whatever suits the individuals needs.

Thumbs up

I don't think you can go wrong with DAN insurance an instructor I know is being sued by a student and the service they have provided to him has been excellent to date.

Safe diving,
Steve.

I have heard (though only rumour) that DAN are a bit "funny" about UK incidents as they feel the NHS/UK Govt cover most things. In respect of cover in other EU countries they have a good reputation.

Personally I don't bother with insurance as I think most (no all) insurance companies are thieves... However, you have to have insurance in France and Spain and can buy it daily (from LDS) in those countries. If we move to France next year we will get insurance.

I think if paying annually I think I would want cover for the kit as well.

I remember reading this last year about one of the divers over on uk.rec.scuba.. Google link . Seems like he got shafted by DAN. Sorry Correction and retraction. He didn't feel that DAN were there for him and his wife.

Have a read and make up your own mind.
