| I've had RSI in both hands for I-don't-know-how-many-months. It was reduced a bit by, as the advice above says, sitting properly upright, shoulders straight, and not resting my arms on the armrests. But that only reduced it - I still had to wear wrist supports all day. It transpired that I have a somewhat-askew hip (thanks to years of it compensating for carrying a rucksack on one shoulder) and this was causing a nasty chain of problems - wonky hip->wonky back->drooping shoulders->arms heavily on armrests. I was recommended a book called "Pain Free" by a physiotherapist, got it off Amazon in paperback for a tenner. Started the excercises it recommends on Saturday, they take about ten minutes a day, and I've been typing at work all day without needing my wrist supports. It's also the first time in months I haven't had a sore neck and numbness in my thigh. Pretty good going for only three days, eh? Given that it also stopped SWMBO's decade-old shoulder pain in the space of a week, I'd highly recommend the book. Link

| I thought the whole RSI think was bull for years as I have been in IT and using a keyboard for 20 years without a problem. Then all of a sudden I have a very sore joint in the middle finger on the left hand and right index finger. The doctor game me some cream that took some of the pain away but can only be used for a three month period, then you have to stop using it - gee thanks. I have educated myself to avoid using the painful fingers but no difference. Time to stop IT work and do a proper job instead (or just go diving) |
