Unhappy Sore Toes!!!!

I did the practical of my Rescue course on Saturday and that evening my toes started really hurting. I think it could be one of two things. I had too much squeeze in my suit and it has crushed my toes or when I put my suit on my boots I had some water in them thus making my sock soaking wet and having to wear them all day.

My toes are painful to walk on, red and swollen. Also, when I haven’t got weight on them there is a constant, irritating ‘itch’ to them.

I’m sorry this isn’t very pleasant, but I’d like to know if anyone has experienced this and what their diagnosis was. What ever it is, I plan to go to the doctors if it doesn’t calm down by the end of today!

Thank you!

sorry to say this but it sounds like Athletes foot - keep them dry, very dry! Clean and get some powder e.g. Mycil or some-such - better still go to your GP and get it checked out.

for those that aren't aware - "Athelets foot" is not restricted to your feet and can get almost anywhere. Watch you don't get it on your hands as this is most uncomfortable.

...lets hope it isn't this.

Or these:

Chilblains

An extreme reaction to cold, in which superficial blood vessels contract excessively causing skin to go pale and numb, then red, swollen, and itchy; eventually skin may break; most common on hands and feet. Problems get worse with repeated exposure to cold and damp.

Kate, call the Royal Navy Doctor on 07831 151523 and describe your symptoms - you need to rule out DCI. Make the call NOW.

On a rescue course you are likely to have made a number of ascents, perhaps at less than perfect ascent speeds? Pain, a rash, do those symptoms sound familiar? I would make the call just to rule it out.

First thing that sprang to my mind was DCI.

Make the call , better safe than sorry.

I agree - makes sense - The RN Doctor is an excellent source and completely un-biased.

Good Shout Tom.

Aye, one more vote for that. Andy skipper of the Jean Elaine told me about a toe bend someone had suffered last time i was up there (had a sore toe after dropping cylinder on it).

Good call Tom.

Think you should make the call for your peace of mind.

However, as we all saw at easter all them hunky blokes struggling to get your suit on , i think what your suffering from is :-

A weekend of poor circulation to your feet, from the suit being to tight. Wet wolly socks in a rubber suit causes some awful feet itches , I know , been there and scrapped the socks.
Plus being a rescue course with all that finning ....... are you bending up your toes inside the suit , due to loose boots in the fin at the toes ? this would itch and hurt .

Be good to see what the DOC has to say on this one.
