Chris mate,

Like others here, I've no concept of what having (or finding out that you have) MND might feel like (mentally, spiritually or physically), and consequently struggle to articulate any meaningful/worthwhile response to the news - that said, you articulate, in the above quote, precisely how I'd imagine I'd feel in the same circumstances.

From the limited amount I know about the condition, you've got years yet and knowing you, you'll squeeze every ounce out of them

Take it easy and I look forward to seeing you in Mull this year.

For once I am lost for words. I hope that if I were placed in your position I would display your courage and bright outlook.

Chris, I'm so sorry to hear that.
I've worked with people who study and research this. One of my former colleagues works on this disease with one of the countries top experts, Prof Pamela Shaw, in Sheffield, so the best experts are right on your doorstep
http://www.shef.ac.uk/medicine/staff/shaw.html
These people are constantly working on understanding the several conditions which collectively make up what we call MND, and who knows when the next treatment breakthrough will come?
Keep your chin up mate
Steve

Dear Chris

I hope you keep on doing what you do, and don't let this get you down.

Just curious - How did you end up going to get tested, or what prompted you to speak to the doctors?

Hi Mark

What I first noticed was that my right foot was making a slapping noise as I walked and when I looked down the foot was also swinging out to the right.

This was followed by a lack strength in the right leg, around the same time as this happened I started to get twiching in my leg & arm muscles.

It means that my employment prospects have been knocked on the head for the mo, but you never know what is around the corner.

On a more serious note, PLEASE read all the small print of any insurance policy that you have relating to unemployment and critical illness. Insurance companies have their best interests at heart not yours. Please recheck yours and get it amended so your best interests are uppermost!

Finally, thank you for all your messages of support and I hope to meet more of you YDers in the future.

Regards
Chris

As you can imagine this news feels like being hit by a truck. I have been carried through the worry and fear by a wonderful man - Chris - he has been much stronger than me. But now we know the final diagnosis I feel my insides are starting to solidify again and I will find the strength to be there for him. He has asked me to marry him and I said yes. To anyone who knows him you will know he never planned to marry a THIRD time so I am honoured!!! Thanks for all your support and wonderful words. Family and friends are all that matter at times like this.
