Dont worry about losing lenses, I have done no mask swims and not lost one yet better still if you lose one you can still see, just try reading gauges with lenses in and no mask

Excuse my poor explanation, but will any of these lenses fit the mask/s you have though?
Worth having a look at the site if only to compare Spanish v British prices on masks.

Ness, I've just been using a perscription mask. My eyes are slightly different (2.5 and 2.75) but it dosen't seem to be an issue. Good luck with the lenses, just be careful about losing lenses underwater - I have seen this happen a couple of times,

Thanks,
Robert

Contact lens advice

Just wondering if any of you guys and gals dive with mono vision contact lens. My optitian has advised one lens to use for diving as opposed to a mask.

Today was the first trial day, after several attempts, losing it on the bathroom tap I eventually got the lens in and it feels ok but vision not brilliant yet but its getting better, just have to train this eye to see close up while the other does distance.

Would be grateful to hear from any others if you dive this way as an alternative to a prescription mask and if so have you ever had any problems.

Hope I can get the thing out after 4 hours .............

I think there's a thread around somewhere about diving with contacts...

ah yes - here

lots of info from contact wearing divers which might be worth a peruse.

Is your optician suggestion you dive with one lens in and one uncorrected eye? Guess it all depends on your prescription and type of lens - any info on that.

Thats exacley what optitian is suggesting just one lens in the left eye so I can see guages and computer.

They are soft daily disposables its been in almost 2 hours now and it feels fine and the vision is getting better all the time.

Distance is not a problem thats why only one lens, disposables have less risk of infection just throw them away.

I only started wearing glasses 2 years ago prescription now is +1.75. I did try the stick on lens but lost one during a rescue course.

Thanks for the link its been helpful.

As well as the actual diving, think about your whole day out on the boat etc. - are you comfortable with spending the whole day with imbalanced vision? I guess you could drop the lens out between dives but that would be no mean feat on a RIB .

The one piece of advice which I reckon nobody round here will contradict is do not under any circumstances even consider getting a prescription mask from Diveoptix

Strange as it may seem there is no problem swapping between near and distance with the lens in. Its just a matter of training the left eye to see near and the right eye to see distance.

I had been looking at diveoptix until I read the threads on here

Hope those concerned get their money back or justice is done.

Talking

I dive with this type of combination indeed work, drive etc etc and have done now for over 4 years.
It can be a bit weird but acclimatisation is quick, however if you are not used to wearing lenses and chop and change regularly it may remain odd for a while.

You may find, and this is my experience, that low light vision at close range is not too good but that may be down to impending senility.

Enjoy.................

It's easier if the contact lens is on the non dominant eye. Use it as a short term solution for diving. I did this for a few years before correcting both with multifocal contact lenses. Trying to work with a reading segment in a mask is not very clever.
