| I was suspected as having asthma as I had a major attack about two and a half years ago - but then nothing more. I had to tick asthma box on PADI and TDI forms So I got a fit to dive statement from my GP (the PADI medical form) This was accepted by PADI, by dive operators abroad and by TDI As I have not required preventative medication for two years I can now self certify again - but will keep my medical current - it's not just about complying with the rules - it's about making sure that we are safe. There is nothing down there worth dying for.

Having a reasonably current medical cert (less than one year old) from your doctor will probably suffice ... but best to check with the dive centre before you get there to make sure would be my advice. Rgrds Mal P.S. Why not just ask your own instructor? |

Some countries don't accept self disclaimers, but the number is reducing. Having a medical signed off by a member of the UKSDMC is about as good as you will get, professional HSE medicals aside. Don't forget that you average GP won't have a clue about the effects diving may have on medical problems. Even if they are a diver. Adrian

Our medical referee does them cheaper than the GP that my mum worked for did sports medicals. My last was about 30 quid IIRC
