All you instructors, plz advise !

Hi people, below is a typed copy of a report from my GP regarding the ability to dive.

This is to confirm Jamie Mattison was involved in a Road Traffic Accident in May 2002, he now suffers from acute renal failure and is hypertensive which is well controlled through medication.

Please advise if this letter will be satisfactory when it comes to filling in the Dive Medical Questionnaire.

Many Thanks.

Dunno who you dive with Jamie, but as a BS-AC D.O. and instructor, I'd probably want to check with a diving referee if you came to me with that, purely because I'd not understand the implications.

If they gave the go ahead, then who am I to argue ?

Did the doc suggest that you modify your diving in any way. i.e. restrict your depth or use nitrox wherever possible ?

Thumbs down No.

It needs to state; You are fit to dive, with/without whatever restrictions.
Preferably on whatever agency "medical declaration", that you wish to dive with.

The note is not within 12months so I wouldn't accept it as it stands anyway

hi mate, im not actually doing diving, im just making sure im in good health before i take the plunge, i asked the doctor if my blood pressure would affect diving in any way, the letter doesnt suggest this and states clearly that it is well under control.

I dont know what Nitrox is :P - is there anything i can ask the doctor to add?

I have to agree, as a Diving Officer, I'd direct you to a diving referee for clearance to dive.

try here, if you answer NO to any of the Self Declaration form questions you have to get a Dr to sign off or a UKSDMC medical referee to sign off (not an instructor just had to go through this process when local GP did not want to sign)

Providing that your blood pressure is controlled so it is at normal levels, you will not have a problem getting signed off as fit to dive. I have the same problem myself. I declare that I take prescribed drugs, and when the dive outfit are going 'hmmmmm', I produce a valid diving medical. These last two years for myself ( depends on age ). Copy the form of, say, the BSAC site, find the nearest diving medical Ref., and for a small fee they should sign you off.

Best have it done properly!
