Costochondritis

Two questions really.

Q1 is diving the cause of my recent aparent increase in the pain form this?

Q2 is it safe to dive while taking ibrufen. The doc prescribed this to ease the pain.

It can be, but it's a LOT better than the heart attack I thought I was having when it first started!

I need to lose about 4 stone to be a prober weight again, and diving is the spur I'm using to get fit again :: I'm hopening that one of the side effectgs will be a reduction in the costocho pains

1st - I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like it could be

The risk of developing costochondritis increases with any physical activity that causes trauma or strain to the ribcage.
From http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/...chondritis.htm

I imagine that the weight of kit may cause some strain, or maybe from moving kit around

Smile Painkillers!

Hello Beardy,
Painkillers are safe to take whilst diving, I take some myself (not Ibuprofen, am allergic) as I get alot of joint pain, although getting better.

Just make sure that if taking ones that can irritate your stomach, such as aspirin and Ibuprofen, don't get in a situation that you can be burping stomach acid at 12m (cos that's my usual trick!), and also note that....

..... painkillers can mask early DCI symptoms, as they mask pain! so just be wary!

Safe Diving,
Lou
