Blimy, never seen that used before. If the car park was that busy, it must have been diver soup in the wet stuff!

Ah the joys of Cardiac Hill. Have done it in my twin 12's- never again. My SAC on jumping in must have been about a zillion.

Still- I only ever walk down it- never up.

Oh dear.....done it many times....

Its all in the time you arrive...Stoney is either a 6.00am arrival or 10.30am arrival. If you get there about 10.30 you are going in as the early birds are going out....straight down to the bottom car park.

Ever tried Chepstow...

They supply..

Changing mats so you don't get your gear dirty....
Loads of trolleys so you don't have to lug your gear around...
A lift down to the diving pontoon...
Kitting up benches the right height to get your gear on and just jump in..

Stoney could do well with putting their house in order...I agree

Stoney car parking is extraordinarily badly managed - by far the worst place i've ever visited for car parking, or just customer service as a whole.

They seem to have a policy of cramming as many cars into as small a space as possible - completely ignoring the practicalities and relative benefits of doing so.

A case in point - I was there last weekend, on Saturday. We had I think 13 people based out of the back of a single minibus (a couple brought cars and left them up in the top car park). Now, surely Stoney would be keen to encourage this? One vehicle, 13 paying customers? You'd think (or I certainly did), but no - they complained that we hadn't told them we were coming, that too many weren't members, that we didn't get them to fill in day entry forms before we got there, and then which really upset me they wouldn't allow us any extra space either at the side or the back of the bus!!!

Now i'm a reasonable person, but if someone who understands their logic could possibly explain it to me i'd be really grateful. They told me that "if someone who has to park in the top car park sees that space they will complain". I may be overestimating other divers, but personally i'd see a large vehicle, with lots of people around it, completely filling the small space behind it and not think anything like "oooh i could have parked there". Would anyone really complain that 13 people should take up two whole spaces in the bottom car park?
We actually ended up spreading out around 8 spaces - fitting in between other cars wherever we could (no doubt annoying other divers in the process). We didn't want to, but you can't physically fit 13 people plus kit into a 2x1m space behind a minibus.

They were of course happy to point out that if we wanted we could pre-book a space... for £25! Now sorry, but we're bringing a lot of trainees regularly, we turn up early and queue like everyone else, and we have to pay £25 just to get an extra space to actually be able to get any kit out of the minibus? I don't think so!

The logical conclusion from this is that we should in future bring people in cars rather than the bus. We'd all get up the same time, queue the same time, wouldn't cost much more (because of the hire fee for the minibus) but we'd be able to happily fill 4 or 5 spaces with cars in the car park, with much more space between them (because they're smaller). Solved our problem - Stoney wouldn't complain about us bringing lots of new people, we wouldn't need an extra space, we wouldn't annoy other divers, and we wouldn't be paying Stoney any more than necessary for a crap service.

And of course, i'm sure Stoney would be happy - by saving one space by squashing a car in behind the minibus, in the future that'll probably cost them an extra 4 spaces because we'll start using cars instead. Great bit of management I think.

And yes, before you ask I did point out the affect their policy would have, and they didn't seem at all bothered about it (surprise surprise) - so whenever we can we'll just take cars, or ideally go somewhere else! If anyone else owns a nice quarry in the Midlands I will happily be your first customer if you can manage it properly (and have a 6m shelf).

David

PS - in case you hadn't guessed, i'm not a fan of Stoney's management!

Angry Stone cove

Stoney cove shoud get there act together the bus stop is to small it should be twice the size and the ladder to get back out is rubbish .How much would it cost to make up a boat ladder. And they should make up some benches so you can kit up easly and to think they charge you 12 pounds for the pleasure.

Hi Denalex48
The reason you are so out of condition is easy! your occupation is not a gigglo but overweight taxi driver (and the reason you can afford to go to Dominican in next couple of weeks)so get down to the pool on Wed nights and get in the water
