Question PFO closure

Hi Mark,
I see that you have recently undergone the PFO closure... just wandering how you are feeling about it now. I have just been confirmed as having a PFO and am gutted ! Thinking of having the closure... but scared stiff ! Worried about many things, like how long do they last ? how long do you have to "take it easy" afterwards ? what's the chances of complications etc etc.
So I'd appreciate your comments on how things have gone for you..
Regards, Andrea

Answers in order and not necessarily fact. You will need to speak to a cardiologist for best feedback.
Six months post op and still feeling much better than prior. I was bubbling at rest though so maybe the improvement is more noticeable. Don't be gutted; if you get it closed you are at less risk of stroke, heart attack, Neuro DCS. I think they last forever, check out the amplatzer web site. Take it easy for a few weeks to avoid straining the site and causing a bleed. Complications 1/100 operations are fatal.
Hope this helps
Give me a ring if you want to chat about it

as someone who's had the odd problem or two since having the device put in (though these have not been definitively proved to be due to the device) i'm happy to discuss my experiences and possible side effects with anyone who is interested.

I would not change my decision to have the op, but i think people should hear the potential flip side to the op before making their decision!

"Huge" PFO shunting minimally at rest and massively with valsalva (won't know exactly how large until it's closed) tested following undeserved cerebral bend. Now on the waiting list for closure with Mark Turner at BRI.

Glad to hear you have an answer. Good luck with the future and hopefully it will be sorted soon.

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.
