Cracked ribs

I was recently clever enough to run smack bang into a squash court wall and crack or break arib or 2. This was about 3 weeks ago. the major pain has now gone but it still aches abit at times. Does anyone know what would be a sensible time to wait before i start diving again?

You let something like a couple of broken ribs stop you diving?
If you can pick the kit up you can dive.
View it as hyperbaric therapy.
Reportedly very good for broken bones.

I got cracked ribs a number of years ago and dived on regardless. To be truthful, it was only a number of years after the fact that a chest xray revealed that the ribs had indeed been cracked.

Damned painful from what I remember. Getting back onto the RIB was the hardest part.

Hope they heal soon pal

what ever you do make sure its all no deco with plenty of saftey stops. wetable surfaces (ie, damaged tissue that cause platelets to rupture and start the healing process) are likely to be great for creating bubbles.

Ian, I think Nigel there should have put a smiley face or grinning thingy at the end of his post. I can pick my kit up when I'm rat-arsed or full of the flu but it wouldn't mean I'm fit to dive!

To a certain extent it depends what your planning on doing With any badly bruised or damaged area of the body where the blood flow is being affected as tissue repair goes on you could be more susceptible to DCS. I saw a mate get a shoulder bend after "crookin" (old Aussie word) his arm as he dumped his twinset down - however that was a gas dive.

There's probably a 99% chance that it would be fine but personally I'd wait till the aching and soreness subsides.

Yipee!!
Thanks folks. I thought i'd need to give them time to heal. Looks like i'd better shut up and get back in the water.
Cheers
Ian.

You'll be fine. Kitting up etc may be painful but it's all ok in the water.
I've had this 3 times from playing football and each time I have taken up to 8 weeks to stop feeling the pain.

I am told that they heal slowly due to little blood supply there but who knows.
Anyway, get it the water

Huh?
If my nose works so I can clear my ears and I'm not being seasick I'll dive.

Sadly I loose a lot of dives to seasickness but I'm not badly seasick any more, I've had a lot of practise so I'm now very good at it.

OK I did give it 6 weeks after the heart attacks and surgery but that's about the longest 'off' period I've done in years. It's just a matter of getting your priorities sorted.
